Toile Fabric originated from Jouy, France in the 18th Century and had two-toned line illustrations. Known as "Toile de Jouy" the original linen and cotton fabrics depicted pastoral scenes from travels abroad, farm life, and hunting scenes in the country. Another category of toile is known as "Toile Indienne" an adaptation from the traditional designs. Brought to Europe from The Middle East, these cotton toiles depict bright multicolored botanical scenes and fabulously intricate authentic designs.
